Meet Amanda.

Amanda Griffith-Atkins is a licensed marriage and family therapist, author, speaker, and founder of Amanda Atkins Counseling Group in Chicago. She earned her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University, but it was the birth of her first son that profoundly shaped her work and purpose.

When her son Asher was diagnosed at seven weeks old with Prader-Willi Syndrome, a rare genetic condition, Amanda found herself navigating the emotional complexities of raising a disabled child in a world that often leaves little room for honest conversations about grief, identity, and caregiving. Through her own experience, she recognized a major gap in support for parents and caregivers and became passionate about creating spaces where people could speak openly about the realities of caregiving without shame or pressure to “ just stay positive.”

Today, Amanda leads a group therapy practice with over 25 therapists specializing in parenting, grief and loss, relationships, perinatal mental health, and couples therapy. She is a nationally sought-after speaker known for combining clinical expertise with lived experience, warmth, and honesty. Amanda lives in Chicago with her husband and three sons.

Her book, How to Handle More Than You Can Handle, is available wherever books and audiobooks are sold.
